database exam prep

I think I've done pretty well with the entity relationship diagrams and for the most part importing into access because of the work we've done previously but I need more practice with finding mistakes in the data and changing them. I'm okay with validation rules and input masks but need to make sure I can use more complex ones like using drop down lists and need to remember to include validation text.

Strategy

1. Mark out on the map where the buses have to stop and the number of players to pick up
2. Split the map up into the 4 parts (like this)

3. Adjust the map sections so it doesn't cover places where you don't have to pick anyone up
4. For each bus route make the first stop the furtherest away and work inwards to Crawley
5. Using the spreadsheet model check whether routes work
6. Trial and error to get routes working
7. Adjust depature times so the buses don't leave too early (because of age groups) but get to Crawley before 12:00

Chemistry Mock

Although I got my MAG grade I think I could have done a lot better considering that I did a lot of revision by answering questions from the text book and past papers the week before the exam. I mainly lost marks by not reading the question carefully enough and simple mistakes like not giving the full name of methods for producing ethanol and getting arrows the wrong way. I think I need to focus my revision on more difficult calculations involving volume and concentrations, as well as going over notes for alcohols and polymers.

On the other hand, my answers for longer questions and definitions improved ^___^

CRM

January 5, 2010 by Daniella   Comments (0)

CRM is used by businesses to improve marketing and sales, especially with existing customers. It works by analysing previous data to find key information and trends such as high selling products, location of customers and dates of orders which then allows the company to target certain areas whether by customer email or physical advertising.

  • Which county has the lowest rate of sales? ( Therefore meaning more advertising is needed)
  • Which is the least popular product? (Could be replaced)
  • Which item type is the most popular? (Information on what items should be replaced with)
  • Which item/ item type is most popular each month? (Example in September skates but December skis. Useful for discount sales)
  • Which customer ordered a certain item type? (Making emails more tailored to the customer)

Chains, energy and resources test

November 24, 2009 by Daniella   Comments (0)

Overall I'm quite happy with my grade since it was a big improvement from the last test. I think I did really well with the numbers and equation and molecular structure sections. To push my grade to an A I need to work on recall and definitions although a lot of the marks I dropped were from stupid mistakes therefore I need to check over my test more carefully.

Chemistry common deadline test comments

I'm a little dissapointed with my result of the test (My first D ever...) but apparently I was only a couple of marks from a C. I was expecting a great grade because it was my first a level test but I did spend a lot of time revising. My major downfall was with the longer questions, as I haven't practiced answering longer questions. I think the only way to get better is by using past questions.

Targets
Use past examples and question from the book to practice longer questions
To get a C or higher

ICT coursework quotes/facts/figures

  • Estimates of abandoned shopping carts on e-commerce sites ranged from 65% to 80%

This quote is useful as it suggests most sales don't actually go through which could mean that the shopping cart page or the checkout page is difficult to understand.

  • Compliance with Usability Guidelines by Design Aspect:
    Checkout & Registration 59%
    Search 42%
    Category Pages 51%

This further backs up the first point

  • International Users – When US-based sites go global, many aspects of the user experience get broken. This report focuses on not only the obvious issues, such as address formats, but also cultural issues as well. Based on usability tests with 24 European users.
  • Nua Internet Surveys (www.nua.ie) estimated that the total number of Internet users in the world was 407 million, of which 167 million were in the United States and Canada. Thus, 59% of the potential users are “international” as far as US websites are concerned.
  • Checkout & Registration – Filling out Web forms correctly is very difficult for most users. Forcing people to register during their first purchase is a confusing and frustrating tactic that drives customers away. Better designs mean more customers can complete the shopping process

First few weeks of ICT

September 21, 2009 by Daniella   Comments (0)

The first two weeks of ICT has been very different from GCSE. This is mainly because we have already started part of our coursework whereas in GCSE we would spend more time learning about what the coursework is about and different examples. This makes sense seeing as there is a lot more work needed for ASLevel but it's difficult to keep focus on writing coursework for almost the full hour.

I think therefore I need to improve on time management organisation because I have a habit of going off on tangents in coursework.
